Laurel County Schools Alumni Hall of Fame

Laurel County Schools is excited to announce the creation of the Laurel County Public Schools Alumni Hall of Fame! The Laurel County Schools Alumni Hall of Fame is being established to recognize, celebrate, and honor those alumni who have distinguished themselves through public service, academic achievement, and professional contributions, which serve to enhance the prestige and excellence of Laurel County Public Schools. It is a way to highlight the accomplishments and contributions of graduates who bring pride to the Laurel County Public Schools and whose merit inspires current and future students to strive for excellence in their own lives.

Celebrating Alumni Hall of Fame Honorees

The selected honorees into the Laurel County Schools Alumni Hall of Fame will be featured in a publication on the district website and Facebook page. A poster with a photo and brief biography will proudly be displayed in the halls of The G.C. Garland Administration building. All honorees will be recognized during a Laurel County Board of Education meeting.

 Nomination Criteria

(Nominee may be living or deceased)

To be considered for this honor, the nominee must have graduated from a current or former Laurel County High School (Bush, Hazel Green, Lily, London, Laurel County, North Laurel, or South Laurel) at least 10 years before the nomination and meet the following criteria:

 1. Be an exemplary role model for others exhibiting a high degree of character and integrity.

2. Be able to be identified as an outstanding member of his/her profession.

3. Have provided a meaningful contribution to the service of others in support of public education, student literacy, student well-being, or in his or her chosen field and professional leadership.

4. Continue to emphasize and demonstrate life-long learning through outstanding contributions in their field of employment with impact on their industry or community.

Selection of Hall of Fame Honorees

  • At the start of each semester, we will ask for nominations for our Alumni Hall of Fame Honorees. We will publicize the call for nominations in January and July of each year.

  • Up to five nominees for the Alumni Hall of Fame will be selected in any given semester.

  • To nominate an individual, you must use the standard nomination form for the Laurel County Public Schools Alumni Hall of Fame. You may complete a nomination form online or pick one up at the Laurel County Schools Central Office.

  • All sections of the nomination form must be completed. If any part is blank, the nominee will not be considered for the Hall of Fame.

  • Nominations will be kept private.

  • Self-nominations will not accepted.

  • If a nominee is not selected for the current semester, Laurel County Schools reserves the right to keep the nomination for consideration for the upcoming semester’s Alumni Hall of Fame. However, after two award cycles, a new nomination must be submitted.

  • Only nominees selected for induction into the Alumni Hall of Fame will be contacted and officially notified for an announcement of induction.

  • A panel of anonymous judges will select the Alumni Hall of Fame honorees. The judges will consist of 3-5 Laurel County Public School employees and at least two community business leaders. Judges will score each nomination form in their group using a rubric developed by the district committee. From the final selection score, the panel of judges will determine the number of nominees to be inducted, address any possible ties, and resolve any disputes. The decision of the panel is final.

All nominees will be considered, living and deceased, regardless of race, gender, or religion.
