Dear Laurel County Schools Students and Parents,
It is truly an honor and a privilege for me to welcome you to the 2023-24 school year. The first day of school marks a milestone for students and parents alike. For some, it is the first day of kindergarten and for others it is the first day of their senior year. No matter where you are on your learning journey in the Laurel County Schools, it is our commitment to you to provide an environment that is safe, supportive, challenging, and engaging; we believe in “Doing Great Things for Kids.”
I am proudly serving as Interim Superintendent of the Laurel County Schools after the recent retirement of former Superintendent, Dr. Doug Bennett. This month begins my 32nd year in education in Laurel County, where I have been a teacher, coach, club sponsor, administrator and most recently, Deputy Superintendent. My goal during this interim is to maintain Laurel County Schools as an accomplished School District, continuing our commitment to excellence.
The Laurel County School District is high performing due to everyone’s dedication to work together in the pursuit of excellence. The participation of students, staff, parents, community members and organizations is essential for our success. I encourage parents to be active in their child’s educational experiences and create strong home learning environments. Read with your child, help them with homework, ask them about their school day, and attend various school functions; parent involvement promotes better student attendance, behavior, grades, and social skills. I expect students to come to school this year with a positive attitude, ready to learn at high levels, and I commit to you that our teachers are dedicated to meeting student needs to ensure this learning will take place.
Please unite with me, our teachers, and our administrators to ensure this is a successful year for all students. I look forward to the year ahead.
Sincerely,
Denise M Griebel
Interim Superintendent
